Sustainability is an ongoing process, and as a small business, we aim to work with suppliers following the highest standards. We remain committed to continually evolving and improving processes for gentler impact on our Earth as an integral part of growing our business.
From sourcing and sampling to production and shipping, our processes are purposeful, rooted in the knowledge that less—less waste, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, less mindless consumption—is always more.
TIMELESS DESIGN
Longevity is the best form of sustainability. Each AGMES piece is designed to defy trends and handmade to last for generations. We combine sculptural forms with thoughtful construction to create original yet easy to wear pieces that you will reach for year after year and pass down.
MATERIALS & SOURCING
METALS, METAL WORK & FINISHING
Sustainability starts with responsible sourcing. Almost all of the metals used in our jewelry, accessories, and objects are recycled.
We strive to source Fairmined metal. This standard requires responsible mining, environmental protection, improved working conditions, and traceability of the minerals as well as socio-economic development. The Fairmined certification guarantees that metals have been extracted in harmony with nature, human dignity and sustainable development.
PEARLS
Our fresh water pearls are carefully sourced from farms where there are no manufactured chemicals in use. The water used is filtered naturally by carp (fish) that are added to ponds, and the mussels themselves are natural water filters. The combined effect of carp and mussel filtration naturally reduces marine pollution.
We strive to source pearls from partners with fairtrade certifications from organizations including:
The American Gem Trade Association; a non-profit trade organization that represents the gemstone and cultured pearl industry in US and The Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America.
A ZERO WASTE APPROACH
Committed to reducing waste in all our processes, we strive to ensure that any scrap metal generated in the development and making of pieces is returned to our suppliers for reuse. Additionally the water used in production is evaporated and / or filtered thoroughly to capture all metal particles before discharge into the sewer system.
LOCAL PRODUCTION
We support our community and minimize our carbon footprint by working with fellow New York City businesses on prototyping, production, and packaging. Our production partners uphold the highest possible standards and certifications including the following:
